Why You’ll Love This Tear And Share Bread
This recipe doesn’t hold back from a tasty garlic flavour; that’s why I love it so much! The garlic butter is spooned on top of the dough, it’s also spread on the baking tray before being baked in the oven. Garlic granules are added to the bread dough, it gives the bread a real garlic explosion that’s not too overpowering.
Making bread can be a little bit scary but this recipe is quite easy to make and follow.
It’s great for feeding crowds, parties and large gatherings.
You can make sandwiches with them, dip them in soup or eat them by themselves.

Recipe Ingredients
Here are the few ingredients needed to make this easy pull apart garlic bread:
- Strong White Bread Flour: For a spongy bread texture.
- Fast Action Yeast: Dried fast action yeast helps the dough to rise.
- Garlic Granules: Garlic granules are dried pieces of garlic that has been grounded into small crumb-like sizes. You can get garlic granules easily online like here on Amazon. If you don’t have garlic granules, then you can use garlic powder instead.
- Sugar & Salt: Salt adds flavour and sugar aids yeast fermentation.
- Olive Oil: Is added to flour with warm water to form the bread dough.
- Homemade Garlic And Herb Butter: To make the garlic butter, you simply need to mix butter, garlic, fresh or dried chives and dried oregano together in a small mixing bowl.

How To Make Garlic Tear And Share Bread Step-By-Step
Below is a step-by-step guide on how to make garlic bread from scratch, it’s a savoury tear and share pull apart bread. Full recipe instructions are on the recipe card at the bottom.
Step One:

Place flour, salt, sugar, garlic granules and yeast into a large mixing bowl and mix together until evenly combined. Make a well in the middle of the bowl and pour in warm water and olive oil. Mix together until a dough has formed.
Step Two:

Knead the dough for 5 minutes, place it in the mixing bowl and cover the bowl with a tea towel. Leave it to prove for 45 minutes in a warm dry place.
Step Three:

Whilst the bread is proving, it’s time to make the garlic butter. Mix butter, chives, oregano and finely chopped garlic.
Step Four:

After 45 minutes, knock the air out of the dough and cut the dough into 12 equal pieces (mine where 65g each). Roll them into balls using the palm of your hands.
Step Five:

Spread 1/3 of the garlic butter on the bottom and sides of your baking tin (if you’re using one that can easily detach) or spread the garlic butter on the sides and bottom of a lined roasting tray with parchment paper. Then add the 12 balls into the tray.
Step Six:

Dollop the remaining garlic butter mixture on top of the bread rolls, in-between them and on the sides. Then leave to prove again for 45 minutes.
Step Seven:

Bake in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown on the top.
My Top Tips
To see if your bread is cooked stick a skewer or toothpick into the bread. If it comes out clean and not doughy, then the bread is cooked. If it comes out doughy, then continue to bake keeping a close eye on it.
You can use a garlic press for fine textured garlic; I like to cut the garlic into small pieces. When baked in the oven the small garlic pieces caramelise and bake into the bread rolls.
If you don’t want to make this garlic bread recipe in a tear and share or pull apart style, you can make it into individual garlic bread rolls. Simply leave enough space between each dough ball on the baking tray, so that they can spread without conjoining with one another.
The closer the dough balls are the more stuck they’ll become when baked. I went for more defined bread rolls but if you want them stuck closer together, then make sure the gap between them is quite small.

Recipe Variations
There are so many ways to change this recipe and add in even more flavours:
- Change The Herbs: You can change the herbs used in this garlic tear and share bread: instead of oregano you can use dried mixed herbs, rosemary and even thyme. These are all great flavours that complement garlic well.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle cheeses like cheddar and mozzarella on top of the dough balls before being baked in the oven. The extra cheesy flavour will taste so good.
- Bacon Lardons: Add fried bacon lardons into the flour mixture before adding water and oil. It provides a delicious meaty and salty flavour.
- Garlic Pizza Bread: Make a garlic pizza bread, it’s super easy and just as tasty!
- Make A Garlic Bread Baguette: This is my go-to recipe when I want a delicious garlic bread treat but in 15 minutes!
