A baked Oreo donut, well it just had to be done! It’s soft, tender, fluffy, light and the taste is exceptionally good.

With a cookies and cream flavour, these donuts are packed full of Oreos. There’s crushed Oreos in the batter and it’s sprinkled on top of the cream cheese icing too.

Oreo lovers this right here is a dream come true!

Baked oreo donuts

I can’t wait for you to try these Oreo doughnuts; they’re baked in the oven as opposed to being fried.

Unlike traditional donut recipes, there’s no yeast in this one. So the donuts have more of a cakey texture rather than being bread-like.

There’s no kneading or resting time which makes this recipe super simple and a great introduction to making doughnuts.

Watch How To Make Oreo Donuts

Whether you call them donuts or doughnuts, this Oreo flavoured treat is so addictive. Technically, doughnuts is the original spelling in the UK but lately donuts have become a popular choice.

I’m a huge fan of Oreos, I love them a bit too much! Especially my 3 ingredient Oreo mousse, 2 ingredient Oreo mug cake and this easy Oreo waffle recipe. If you have spare Oreos left over, then you have to make these two desserts.

Recipe Ingredients

Below are the ingredients needed for this Oreo donut recipe:

  • Plain Flour: Salt, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda are added to plain flour.
  • Cocoa Powder: This is my favourite cocoa powder! It’s dark, rich and adds an unmissable flavour to the Oreo doughnuts (avoid using cheap cocoa powder, you will not get the same intense flavour).
  • Light Brown Sugar: This adds moistness and sweetness to the donuts.
  • Eggs: Use eggs at room temperature for best results.
  • Milk: I used full fat milk.
  • Butter: You need melted butter for the dough and approximately a tablespoon extra to grease the baking tin.
  • Vanilla Extract: Adds a delicious flavour to the donut (this is optional).
  • Oreos: Use any Oreo flavour for this donut recipe, I went with traditional cookies and cream.

How To Make Cookies & Cream Oreo Donuts

Below is a step-by-step guide on how to make cookies and cream Oreo donuts baked in the oven. Full recipe instructions are on the recipe card.

Step One:

Wet donut ingredients in a bowl

Preheat the oven to 180°C (gas mark 4, 350°F) and grease a doughnut tray with melted butter.

Add an egg, milk, vanilla and melted butter into a large mixing bowl and mix until combined.

Step Two:

Donut batter

Pour flour, cocoa powder, salt, sugar, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda to the mixing bowl and mix together until a batter has formed.

Step Three:

Crushed Oreos added to batter mixture

Add crushed Oreos to the batter and mix until evenly distributed.

Step Four:

Oreo batter in doughnut tray

Spoon or pipe the Oreo donut mixture into the doughnut tray and bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Stick a skewer inside, if it comes out clean then it’s ready.

Once baked, leave the donuts to cool down for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool down completely.

How To Make The Cream Cheese Icing

Step Five:

Baked donuts decorated with icing and crushed Oreos

To make the cream cheese icing add icing sugar, cream cheese, vanilla extract and milk to the mixing bowl and mix together until combined. You can add more milk if necessary to change the consistency.

Once the donuts are baked and have cooled down completely.

Dunk each donut into the cream cheese icing and place on a cooling rack icing side up. Then sprinkle with crushed Oreos and leave the icing to harden.

Do You Need A Donut Tray To Make This Recipe?

Yes, you’ll need a non-stick donut tray to make this recipe.

This is what creates a ring doughnut shape when baking the Oreo donuts in the oven.

How Do You Remove The Donuts From The Tin?

Oreo doughnuts recipe

Removing the donuts are quite simple but prior steps are necessary. It’s so important to grease your donut tray with melted butter or oil before you use them.

This makes removing the doughnuts easy when baked. Gently place a knife under the donut on all sides to detach it from the tray and gently lift it with your hands.

If you’re more on the wild side, you can just turn the tray upside down! But this method has the potential to break the donuts.

How Do Store Homemade Oreo Donuts?

If you have any Oreo donuts leftover, keep in an airtight container. Store at a cool room temperature or in the fridge. They’re best eaten freshly made but up to 2 to 3 days.

You can also freeze these oven baked doughnuts, see how to below.

How To Freeze Homemade Baked Doughnuts

If you want to freeze the doughnuts, do not decorate them.

Allow the doughnuts to cool completely before transferring them into a freezer bag of freezer-safe container. Place parchment paper between layers of doughnuts to avoid sticking.

When you’re ready to eat the doughnuts, take them out of the freezer and leave to thaw at room temperature. Then make the cream cheese icing and decorate.

My Top Tips

I like to pipe the doughnut mixture into the tray rather than spooning the mixture. I find spooning the mixture into the doughnut tin can get messy. Whereas piping the mixture gives you more accuracy, uniform doughnuts and control. It prevents overfilling and burnt batter on the sides.

If you don’t have a piping bag, use a sandwich bag and snip a corner of the edge off.

Make sure the doughnuts have cooled completely before dunking it into icing. If it’s too warm, the icing will melt off the doughnut.

Avoid over filling the doughnut tin! It will overflow and the end look will not look good (though it will still taste good).
