My Simple Beef Fried Rice Recipe

Normally I like to add a nice snappy intro here, but I think the pictures speak for themselves! Let’s get cooking…

Chinese beef fried rice

Have you seen the pictures? Are you wondering “how do I make this dish”??!!?!? Well, you’re not alone! It comes together a lot quicker than you might think, and the end result is definitely worth it.

I like to serve this recipe as a side, accompanying the many Chinese fakeaway dishes I’m currently obsessed with. In fact, this is not my first fried rice recipe (I already have a few on this site).

Some of my favourites are this classic egg fried rice and this tasty special fried rice. This beef fried rice, however, has an even richer flavour thanks to the addition of oyster sauce.

Recipe Ingredients

Below are the ingredients I used to make this dish:

  • Beef: I used Sirloin steak; this is my favourite cut to use.
  • Fried Rice Sauce: I make the sauce by mixing together oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, white pepper and sesame oil.
  • Beef Marinade: The marinade is made up of soy sauce, sesame oil, shaoxing wine, cornflour, salt and white pepper.
  • Vegetables: I used diced garlic and spring onions in this dish.

How To Make Beef Fried Rice

Here’s a summary of how I make beef fried rice. You can get the full recipe instructions on the recipe card below:

I start by adding oil to my wok that’s heated over a medium to high heat. I add my marinated beef and stir fry for around 2 minutes or until the meat has browned. Then I remove it from the pan.

Next, I add diced spring onions and garlic and stir fry for 30 seconds before adding the partially warmed microwavable rice, breaking up any clumps and mixing it thoroughly.

Last but not least, I add the fried rice sauce and stir fry for 1 to 2 minutes. Then I add the beef back into the wok and stir fry everything again until it’s evenly distributed.

My Top Tips

I always mention this in pretty much every fried rice recipe post I’ve written!! My quick hack is to always use microwavable rice instead of making rice in advance. I simply pre-warm the rice in the microwave for one minute then finish it off in the wok. It saves me so much time!

I kept this recipe quite plain, so the veggies in this dish are minimal. Feel free to chuck in diced carrots, peas or anything you want in it.

How To Serve

There are so many options on how to serve this dish, like with a portion of kung pao chicken or kung pao prawns. You can also make this the main and serve it with sides like these sesame prawn toasts or vegetable spring rolls.
