Puff Pastry Easter Nests With Nutella
If you love Nutella, then you’re going to love these puff pastry Easter Nests! They’re the perfect dessert for Easter that’s as fun to decorate as it is to eat. Let’s get baking!!
These puff pastry Easter nests have to be the cutest Easter dessert ever! Not only are they adorable, but they’re also incredibly quick, easy to make and it’s a great recipe to make with kids.
Don’t get me wrong, classic cornflake nests will always be a good choice! However, if you’re looking for a flaky, buttery and chocolatey twist this year, then these Nutella puff pastry Easter nests are the perfect choice.
Alongside layers of chocolate hazelnut goodness, I’ve topped these nests with chocolate buttercream (though you can add extra Nutella) and iconic mini eggs.
Why You’ll Like This Recipe
- It’s a quick & easy Easter dessert
- You can swap Nutella with any other spread
- It’s ready to eat in under 30 minutes!!
- It’s great for Easter, but you can make it all year round
- The texture is flaky, soft and the taste is delicious.

Recipe Ingredients
- Puff Pastry: I used shop-bought ready-made puff pastry that’s pre-rolled in parchment paper (like ‘Jus-Rol puff pastry’). You can buy a block of pastry, but you’ll have to roll it out evenly yourself.
- Nutella: Any chocolate hazelnut spread will work.
- Egg: The pastry is egg washed to ensure it develops a beautiful golden-brown colour once baked. Instead of egg, you can use milk as an alternative.
- Chocolate Topping: For the chocolate topping you can use spare Nutella, chocolate buttercream or simply melted chocolate. This helps to stick the mini eggs in place.
- Mini Eggs: For the finishing touch, classic Easter mini egg chocolates are placed on top of the nests. Instead of mini eggs, you can use any Easter chocolates of your choice like Maltesers mini bunnies.
If you want to make the chocolate buttercream topping from scratch, you can use the buttercream recipe from my chocolate cake recipe. Simply swap chocolate orange with standard milk or dark chocolate.
How To Make Puff Pastry Easter Nests
Below is a step-by-step guide on how I make these puff pastry Easter nests using Nutella. Full recipe instructions are on the recipe card:
Step One:
Preheat your oven to 200°C (gas mark 6, 180°Fan) and line a baking tray with parchment paper. You can use the included parchment paper that comes with shop-bought puff pastry.
Unroll the puff pastry sheet in a landscape position. Evenly spread Nutella over one half of the pastry, leaving the other half untouched.
Step Two:
Fold the pastry over like a book and gently press it down. Then, use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the pastry into strips. I cut mine into roughly 1.5cm each.
Step Three:
Pinch the two opposite ends of one strip and twist in the opposite direction 3-4 times. Repeat for all pastry strips.
After twisting each strip, roll it into a spiral (you can watch the video to see how I did this), then place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Brush the pastry with a whisked egg and bake in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until the pastry has puffed up and turned a golden-brown colour. Once baked, leave the nests to cool down.
Step Four:
After cooling, decorate with extra Nutella, melted chocolate, or buttercream. Finally, add mini eggs on top.
My Top Tips
Remove the puff pastry from the fridge and let it thaw for at least 5 to 10 minutes. This step prevents the pastry from breaking apart when you’re unrolling it. If it does break, don’t worry – allow the pastry to thaw, then gently press it back together with your fingers.
Avoid overfilling the mixture with Nutella; while 100g is ideal, I recommend not using more than half a jar. Overfilling can lead to Nutella leaking through the sides of the pastry during twisting, resulting in a chocolatey mess.
The tighter you twist the pastry strips, the less they puff up in the oven, but they will have a defined pattern. For larger nests, I recommend loosely twisting them 2 to 3 times.
How To Store Puff Pastry Easter Nests
I like to keep leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature and eat them within 2 to 3 days.
If you want to freeze them, do not decorate the puff pastry Easter nests with chocolate buttercream, extra Nutella or mini eggs. Decorate only when you’re ready to eat them! To freeze, place the cooled-down pastry nests in an airtight container and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

I made these for Easter today. The instructions and video were easy to follow and I’m very happy with how they turned out. I added a bright sprinkle mix for the holiday.
