Here's how to make homemade salt and pepper chips with Chinese salt and pepper seasoning. This takeaway recipe makes the best chilli chips ever!

Ingredients
  

  • 300 g Oven Chips See Notes
  • 3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper
  • 1 Red Chili
  • 1 Green Chili
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • ½ tsp Chilli Flakes
  • 2 Spring Onions

Salt And Pepper Seasoning Spice Mix

Instructions
 

  • Pour oven chips into a roasting tray and drizzle a tablespoon of oil over the chips. With your hands, toss the chips around until the oil evenly coats the chips.
    300 g Oven Chips, 3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • Place the chips in the oven to cook at 180°C (gas mark 4, 350°F) for 20 to 25 minutes or according to packet instructions.
  • Whilst the chips are cooking in the oven, use a sharp knife, to chop the spring onions, chillies, garlic, bell pepper and peel and chop the onion.
    1 Onion, 1 Red Bell Pepper, 1 Red Chili, 1 Green Chili, 2 Garlic Cloves, 2 Spring Onions
  • With a wok or frying pan add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and stir-fry the onions, garlic, bell peppers and chillies over a medium to high heat for 3 to 4 minutes or until the garlic and onions have softened.
  • Add the chips, dried chilli flakes and spring onions to the pan and continue to stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes.
    ½ tsp Chilli Flakes
  • Sprinkle the seasoning mix (Chinese five spice, white pepper and salt) and toss the chips and vegetables around for 1 to 2 minutes or until the seasonings are evenly distributed.
    1 tsp Salt, 1 tsp White Pepper, 1 tsp Chinese Five Spice

Notes

  • Chips: I used straight cut oven chips in this recipe but you don’t have to do the same. You can fry your chips or use fresh chips from potatoes if you want. This recipe is very versatile! A yummy twist to the recipe is to make salt and pepper chips with sweet potato.
  • Servings: This recipe serves 4 people as a side dish but can easily feed 2 people as heavier/ filling dishes.
