I Tried Series: Creme, Crosstown & Blondies Kitchen Review!
Are London Bakeries really worth the hype? I tried Crosstown, Blondies Kitchen and Creme Cookies… should you? This review will tell you everything you need to know. I purchased everything with my own money, and this is my own personal opinion. So, let’s get into it…
Crosstown Doughnuts (7/10)
I bought 12 Crosstown doughnuts in an array of flavours. All of the doughnuts looked incredibly tasty, and I liked the texture of them (they have a sourdough base). When it comes to taste, I liked some flavours more than others…
Their signature cinnamon scroll was my favourite; the texture was light and soft. To be honest, it’s difficult to go wrong with cinnamon and icing sugar-flavoured doughnuts. While they did have added poppy seeds, which provided a little crunch, I didn’t notice any extra flavour, so I didn’t think it was needed.
I also really like their peanut butter and blackberry doughnut (my second favourite). I’ve never heard of a peanut butter doughnut before, and I never thought that I’ll try one.
The peanut butter flavour wasn’t overpowering, and the blackcurrant compote offered a sweet yet sharp contrasting flavour. If I had to give one criticism, I’d suggest filling the doughnut with the compote instead of putting a blob on the top; it would be less messy to eat.
I bought their pistachio and rose flavour, and while I did like it, I felt like the pistachio flavour needed to come through more prominently. The homemade raspberry jam and Sri Lankan cinnamon sugar were nice takes on classics; I would consider getting them again if I wanted more standard flavours.
Last but not least, I tried their chocolate truffle doughnut. I really liked the flavour and the fact that the ring doughnut has a chocolate truffle filling! A small criticism: I think the dusting of cocoa powder is unnecessary.
Creme London Cookies (5/10)
I tried every cookie flavour at Creme, and I’m sorry to say I was a little underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard to mess up cookies, but considering the price, I was expecting so much more flavour…
I ordered 12 cookies from Creme in total: 3 in banana and dark chocolate, 4 in milk chocolate, 3 in their vegan double chocolate flavour (my favourite) and 2 in their white chocolate and miso flavour.
Before I get into the flavour, let’s talk about the texture. I heated a few cookies up in the oven according to card instructions, but my cookies didn’t turn gooey as the card said it would. I would say it was more of a softer texture with melted chocolate inside. The rest of the cookies I did not warm up.
The double chocolate cookie was nice and chocolatey, I liked the taste of the cocoa powder coming through. It was nice, chunky and soft, plus it’s vegan too. Overall, this was a good cookie, and I would get this flavour again.
Their banana and dark chocolate cookie tasted only of dark chocolate; I would never have guessed it had banana in it. I even gave my sister a cookie to try, and she thought the same too. I don’t know if this was just an off batch or the usual flavour ratio.
The milk chocolate cookie was a little bit boring and flavourless, nothing special. However, the white chocolate and miso cookie was a lot more interesting; it had a salty taste to it. I personally liked it, but I’ve heard others call it salty, and I can understand why (I have a high salt tolerance).
Just as a side note, I liked how their cookies come wrapped in individual packaging. It might not be great for the environment, but it made it easy for me to give away.
Blondies Kitchen Review (9/10)
Blondies Kitchen cookies were amazing, I loved them! They were rich, decadent, flavoursome, tasty and just great.
I brought their cookie nuggets, 3 different bake at home cookie doughs and a box of their nyc cookies which includes: Thicker Than Yo’ Average (milk & dark chocolate cookie), Bueno From The Block (milk hazelnut cream & milk chocolate chunks cookie) and We’re Not Fudging Around Cookie (chocolate fudge cookie with white chocolate chunks).
The milk and dark chocolate cookies were good, but the chocolate fudge and hazelnut cream cookies were right down my street and hands down delicious! Next time I order these cookies, I’ll leave the milk and dark chocolate cookie out and just order more of the other two.
My favourite was the cookie nuggets that came with a Kinder Bueno cream dipping sauce. I loved the sauce, but for 12 nuggets, I think they should have added two sauces instead of one mini cup filled half full (it definitely wasn’t enough for me).
If they could make their thicker than yo average cookie fudgy like their cookie nuggets or not fudging around cookies, then I’ll think I’ll give them a 10/10. That cookie was slightly hard around the edges and only slightly soft in the middle.
