Homemade Viral Crookies

Cookie croissants are the latest craze, and yes, they taste delicious! This creation is where breakfast meets dessert, and it takes me just 15 minutes to make with only 2 ingredients. Here’s how I make it!

What do you get when you bake croissants with heaps of cookie dough inside? Only the most delicious croissant cookies EVER: they’re flaky, gooey and just utterly delicious. I’m wondering why I haven’t made it sooner!

I’ve been seeing these crookies everywhere, and I’m so glad that I decided to try it out for myself. It’s like merging two classics together; the taste is insanely good and the texture so gooey, it’s definitely worth trying.

For me, it’s a bit too rich for breakfast, but it’s perfect as a dessert or cheeky snack. It’s pretty much indulgence on a plate, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Recipe Ingredients

Below I’ve listed the two ingredients you’ll need:

  • Croissants: Use ready made croissants from the bakery or supermarket. FYI, this recipe is a great way to revive slightly stale croissants.
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough: I used shop-bought cookie dough from my local supermarket, though you can make it from scratch by using any of my cookie recipes. If you want to make it from scratch, I’ve listed a few cookie ideas below.

You can use my classic triple chocolate chip cookie recipe, a gingerbread cookie recipe for a tasty twist or these mini egg cookies for an Easter twist.

How To Make A Croissant Cookie

Below I’ve summarised how I make these homemade croissant cookies aka le crookie! Full recipe instructions are on the recipe card below and don’t forget to check out my video too.

I start by slicing the croissants in the middle lengthways. I try to not cut all the way through to keep them connected, but if you cut all the way through it doesn’t matter.

Next, I place a generous amount of shop-bought cookie dough on one side, close the croissant like a book before adding extra cookie dough on top.

For the topping, I simply place a dollop in the middle and sometimes on either end, but you can get creative and decorate in any design that you like.

Last but not least it’s time to bake it in a preheated oven at 180°C (160°C Fan, gas mark 4) for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cookie dough is brown around the edges and gooey in the middle.

My Top Tips

I always use cookie dough left at room temperature as it makes it easy to mould and stuff in between the croissants. Leave the cookie dough to thaw out for at least 15 to 30 minutes before starting this recipe.

If you want to take this recipe to a whole new level and make it even more indulgent! Spread a layer of Nutella (or any of your favourite spreads) on the croissants before adding the cookie dough. It honestly tastes so good and becomes even more moorish and rich.

I cut my cookie dough into long rectangular strips because it came in that shape. However, feel free to roll the cookie dough into balls instead (like in some tik tok videos).

How To Serve Your Cookie Croissant

Serve the cookie croissant freshly baked as the cookie dough will be nice and warm, and the chocolate chips melted – delicious!

To make it even more decadent, add a few scoops of ice cream. I have a few no-churn ice cream recipes on the blog (you don’t need an ice cream machine to make them) which I’ve listed below:

  • Biscoff Ice Cream
  • Honeycomb Ice Cream

How To Store

I store my leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 to 3 days. When reheating, you can warm the crookies in the oven or microwave for a few seconds, or you can enjoy them as they are.
